Kitchener Waterloo 2016 tournament results
Pickleball Hamilton members travelled last weekend to compete in the Kitchener-Waterloo pickleball tournament. Good sportsmanship, great fun and friendly camaraderie was had by all. Meeting other pickleball players from around the province and enjoying competing against them is the goal of any pickleball tournament. But once again this year, Pickleball Hamilton members brought home the majority of medals.
Marilyn Prowse once again proved her dominance by winning the Women’s 4.0 (top level) with Megan Boisvert. She also brought home a Bronze medal when she teamed with John Sullivan at the Mixed age level. Helen Silverthorne and Richard Daley captured second place in the Mixed 3.0 division. Doug Round and Linda Kawamoto captured Gold in Mixed 3.5. John Sullivan and Cathy Johnston won Silver in Mixed 4.0. Henry Philipchenko and Tanya Ostrovsky finished in first place in Mixed 3.0. The mother and daughter team of Linda and Jessica Kawamoto showed how great a family game pickleball is by bringing home the Gold medal in Ladies Doubles 3.5. Zsuzsi Trim and Cathy Johnston continued to show the strength of women’s pickleball in Hamilton by capturing the Silver in Ladies Doubles 3.5 and Bronze in the aged division. Well done ladies! Congratulations to Ray Munro and his partner Heidi Ibs from Fergus who captured the Bronze in Mixed aged (70+) division. At the 4.0 level, Ron Vloothuis and John Sullivan played extremely well going 7-0 in round robin play but were upset in the medal round. They did capture the Open Men’s Double age category Bronze medal by defeating an up and coming team from Brantford, Tom Hodgson and Paul Bakker. Ron also teamed up with Cathy Johnston to win Silver in the 50-59 aged division. Many players representing Hamilton played very well, Ray Boulanger, Marcel Zinn, Rick and Valentyna Stevens, Carla Black, Paul Simon, Bob Faiazza and the Morgan brothers Jeff and Derek. Kam Keyhan and Alex Ostrovsky had a tough draw but played well. Jim Black and James Turner played well and went 4-2 in their pool. Previous Gold medal winner, Gary Davies was sidelined by an elbow injury.
