Promoting the growth of Pickleball in the Hamilton Region!

London tournament results

Kawamotos Excel in London!

Pickleball Hamilton has our own First Family of Pickleball.

In our Sept. 2015 issue, Linda Kawamoto was our Player Profile.

In her profile, Linda explained how much her family was enjoying

pickleball; well it certainly showed this past week-end in London

as the Kawamoto family brought home 6 medals.

Marilyn Prowse and Jessica Kawamoto won a bronze in women's 4.0. In 4.0 men’s doubles, Cam Taylor and Matthew Kawamoto won all their round robin and play-off games except the gold medal game losing the third game by 2 points and thus claiming the silver medal. (see related story page 2). Ron Vloothuis and John Sullivan won their pool and advanced to the next round but were upset before making the medal round. John Boyle and Gary Davies had a tough pool  but played well as did Ray Munro. Ellen and Linda Kawamoto won a bronze medal in the 3.5 ladies’ doubles. Ellen and Matthew Kawamoto were undefeated winning the gold medal for 3.5 mixed doubles. James Turner and Linda Kawamoto had fun playing 3.5 mixed making it to the play offs but got knocked out by the silver medal winners. Matthew and Jessica Kawamoto  lost some close matches in the open mixed doubles but played extremely well.

Marilyn and Gary Davies played well in 4.0 mixed doubles. Rick and Valentyna played well in the 3.5 mixed pool round robin and advanced to the pool winner’s bracket but couldn’t reach the medal round. Valentyna teamed up with Carla Black and improved in every game they played during the 3.5 round robin and had great fun. In 3.5 Men’s Doubles, the teams of Jim Black/James Turner and Steve Sztricsko/Rick Stevens played well. Rick and Steve were undefeated in round robin play but lost out in the quarter finals. Jim and James made it to the bronze medal game but came up just short, finishing fourth overall.

The Pickleball Brothers pictured with the participants at the first-ever Pickleball Camp at one of Canada's most renowned residential summer camps, Olympia Sports Camp. We had a great week of weather, incredible campers and an impressive level of play!  Thanks to Dave Grace, Greg Rogers and the entire Olympia Staff for welcoming Pickleball into their programming. Summer 2017 promises to be bigger and better.

Pickleball Demo at CIRA

Derek and Jeff Morgan pictured with one of their prize conference attendees.  'The Pickleball Brothers' were presenters at the Canadian Intramural and Recreation Association's Annual Conference on beautiful Lake Couchiching. The group was comprised of elementary and secondary teachers, recreation specialists and intramural leaders.  This is the third time that Derek and Jeff have presented a Pickleball session at CIRA, and the workshop was well-attended and well-received. Pickleball Hamilton continues to be a leader in introducing, teaching and creating awareness about this wonderful game.

Pickleball Demo for OFSAA

Derek and Jeff pictured with the delegates at the OFSAA Women's Sport School. The Pickleball Brothers were at Durham College in Oshawa to  present to over 25 Secondary School teachers. The session included some basic paddle awareness drills, modified games, strategy and scoring guidelines and plenty of game play. The delegates were enthusiastic and excited about adding Pickleball to their Health and Physical Education programming! Pickleball Hamilton continues to play a key role in the promotion and development of the 'Game for All'.

CANUSA pickleball

Mayor Fred Eisenberger showed off his very impressive pickleball skills in a friendly match with Flint city administrator Sylvester Jones at Pickleball Hamilton’s Hill Park facility for the CANUSA games. Mayor Eisenberger plays a number of different racquet sports so he is a natural pickleball player. Mr. Jones was playing his first pickleball game but learned quickly and made several nice shots. We are pleased that pickleball will be a recognized sport in the CANUSA games next year!
